Volunteer orientations offered will be primarily for those interested individuals who plan to start in a classroom now and return in September, summer school placements, and those interested in becoming a volunteer interpreter.
For individual community volunteers, the first step in getting started is to attend a two-hour orientation. At the orientation you will learn more about the San Francisco Unified School District and the need for volunteers in the schools. Learn about our agency, how we place volunteers into schools, receive volunteering tips, and talk one-on-one with a SFSV staff member about your volunteering preferences and availability.
Requirements vary for becoming a San Francisco School Volunteer through our Parent and Family Involvement or Allies for Education business and community partnership programs.
Are you under the age of 18? To be an SFSV school volunteer you must be a high school student. If so, the process is a bit different. Download the Youth Volunteer Application which describes what you need to do to become a volunteer. For more information on clearance and available training dates, please contact Dawna Wolfson at: (415) 749-3700 x3014 or dwolfson@sfsv.org.
To attend Orientation, you must bring a completed application packet which includes:
- Proof of a negative TB test result taken after June 15, 2004. The results will then be valid for four years from the date read.
- Completed application form.
- Two completed reference forms. References may be personal or professional, but cannot include family members.
- Completed volunteer snapshot.
- Photo ID (Drivers License, Passport, or State ID), NOT a photo copy. We will use this to do a background check.
