SFSV offers the following volunteer placement programs to San Francisco public schools:

Community Volunteers in Schools SFSV recruits, supports and engages volunteers in areas specific to school needs (e.g. classroom support, tutoring, library support, etc.).

Parent and Family Involvement The program works to provide teachers and schools district-wide with best practices for parent and family involvement, and to create a district-wide network of parent volunteer trainers and lead volunteers.

Allies for Education Corporations, businesses and community organizations partner with a school and together create an involvement plan that supports school needs.

Services Provided by SFSV:

Volunteer Relations A School Relations Coordinator places volunteers in the schools and collaborates and supports teachers and school staff to develop best practices to utilize and retain volunteers. He/she provides bi-monthly check-ins to the volunteers, and plans volunteer recognition activities and events aimed at promoting a positive experience for the volunteers.

Capacity Building We work in partnership with our schools to develop the capacity to manage volunteers.  From creating helpful templates like a school orientation checklist for new volunteers to developing systems to assist in tracking volunteers, we strive to use our best practices in volunteer management and facilitate their integration into individual school sites.  Our overall goal is to support our schools to be able effectively manage and support their volunteers.

Training SFSV focuses on training volunteers to support their work in the schools with workshops such as "Tips for Tutoring," and "Communicating with Adolescents." SFSV also offers workshops to school staff such as "Making the Most of Your Volunteers."
